<p>The final piece of the round came in <strong>The Derby: Battle for Wellington</strong>, where the Wellington Dolphins defeated Silverstream Wild 24-10 in the featured Round 1 video match. That result completes a powerful opening-round picture. </p>
<p>Durban Sports Club and Peninsula Whalers both produced commanding defensive displays. Leeds Tigers and New Mexico Diablos showed serious attacking firepower. Southern SwashBucklers handled their assignment professionally. And Wellington made a major emotional statement by winning the capital derby. The Premiership has started fast — and already there are contenders making noise.</p>

<p>Played as one of the headline fixtures of the opening weekend, the match carried major rivalry energy before kick-off, and Wellington handled the occasion superbly. The Dolphins scored three tries through <strong>Jeffery Toomaga-Allen</strong>, <strong>Carter Gordon</strong> and <strong>Isileli Saumaki</strong>, with Gordon converting all three tries and adding a penalty goal to finish with 14 personal points.</p>
<p>Silverstream’s lone try came through <strong>Tawera Kerr-Barlow</strong>, with<strong> Jordie Barrett</strong> adding the conversion and a penalty goal.</p>
<p>The match was won through Wellington’s control of possession and attacking pressure. The Dolphins held 64% possession and 56% territory, while producing 10 line breaks compared with Silverstream’s four. <p>Durban Sports Club made one of the strongest statements of Round 1, shutting out the Central Vikings 36-0 in front of a huge 49,952 crowd.</p>
<p>After an early Cheslin Kolbe penalty goal, Durban took control midway through the first half with a devastating twelve-minute burst. Ruan Delport crossed in the 24th minute, Henco van Wyk followed in the 27th after a TMO review, Damian Willemse added another in the 32nd, and Leolin Zas finished in the 36th.</p>
<p>By halftime, Durban led 29-0 and the match was effectively out of Central’s reach.</p>
<p>The Vikings had opportunities in the second half, including several attacking lineouts and a TMO no-try moment in the 75th minute, but Durban’s defensive wall held firm. Paul de Villiers added Durban’s fifth try in the 70th minute, while Kolbe finished with 11 points from the boot.</p>
<p>Durban held 60% possession, spent 49 minutes in opposition territory and denied Central a single point across the full eighty minutes.</p>

<p>Leeds Tigers continued their powerful form with a 44-7 victory over Capitol Rhinos, but the final score only tells part of the story.</p>
<p>For forty minutes, the Rhinos made Leeds work hard. George Ford opened the scoring with a penalty goal and then crossed for a try in the 35th minute, but Capitol hit back just before halftime through Lood de Jager. Embrose Papier converted, and Leeds led only 10-7 at the break.</p>
<p>The second half was completely different.</p>
<p>Ford added a penalty goal in the 48th minute before Maro Itoje crossed in the 52nd minute after a TMO review. Sam Underhill scored in the 57th, Jamison Gibson-Park followed in the 61st, and Itoje completed his double in the 69th.</p>
<p>Ford added another penalty goal in the 73rd minute to complete the scoring. Leeds dominated possession at 65% and spent 54 minutes in opposition territory. The Rhinos had scrum and lineout success in patches, but they were overwhelmed by Leeds’ second-half power and precision.</p>

<p>New Mexico Diablos and Galway Greyhounds produced the most open and entertaining match of the completed Premiership fixtures, with the Diablos eventually winning 44-29 after a second-half attacking surge.</p>
<p>Galway started fast through the boot of Antoine Dupont, who kicked three early penalty goals to keep the Greyhounds in front. But New Mexico responded with tries to David Still and Toby Fricker, and the sides went into halftime locked at 15-15.</p>
<p>The Diablos broke the match open after the restart.</p>
<p>Pita Vi scored in the 45th minute before Oscar Lennon crossed in the 49th, pushing New Mexico out to 27-15. Lennon then added a penalty goal to stretch the lead to 30-15.</p>
<p>Galway fought back through Josh van der Flier in the 61st minute, but Malacchi Esdale scored twice in four minutes to put New Mexico clear at 44-22.</p>
<p>Van der Flier grabbed his second try at the death, with Dupont converting, but the Diablos had already done enough.</p>
<p>The win came with one concern for New Mexico, as Damian Penaud was injured late and is expected to miss at least two to three games.</p>

<p>Peninsula Whalers opened their Premiership campaign with a controlled 33-3 win over Hibiscus Heat, powered by Richie Mo'unga’s game management and a strong second-half attacking display.</p>
<p>The first half was physical and tight. Mo'unga kicked two early penalty goals, Isaac Hutchinson replied for the Heat, and Mo'unga added a brilliant drop goal in the 38th minute to give the Whalers a 9-3 halftime lead.</p>
<p>After the break, Peninsula took full control.</p>
<p>George Bridge scored in the 42nd minute, Mo'unga added another penalty goal in the 45th, and Nepo Laulala crossed in the 55th. Bridge completed his double in the 60th minute, with Mo'unga converting all three tries.</p>
<p>The Whalers held 62.5% possession, spent 51 minutes in opposition territory and restricted Hibiscus to just one penalty goal.</p>
<p>The Heat defended bravely in patches and had moments through Havila Molia, Blake Patterson and Isaac Hutchinson, but they could not turn attacking opportunities into tries.</p>

<p>Southern SwashBucklers launched their Premiership season with a composed 25-12 victory over Harlequins Cymraeg, built on strong possession, lineout pressure and a complete performance from Brad Weber.</p>
<p>The SwashBucklers took advantage of a first-half yellow card to Bryn Bradley, with Weber scoring in the 19th minute and converting his own try. Hugh Renton added a second in the 29th minute after a TMO review, giving Southern a 12-0 lead.</p>
<p>Harlequins responded on the stroke of halftime through Cameron Jones, with Josh Thomas converting to cut the margin to 12-7.</p>
<p>Southern struck immediately after the break. Danyon Morgan-Puterangi sparked the attack before Sevu Reece crossed in the 42nd minute. Weber converted, then added penalty goals in the 50th and 61st minutes to push the lead to 25-7.</p>
<p>Rhys Thomas gave Harlequins a late response in the 68th minute, but Southern’s defence held firm through repeated pressure.</p>
<p>The only setback for the SwashBucklers was an injury to <strong>Hugh Renton</strong>, who is expected to miss at least two to three games.</p>

<p>A disappointing derby result, but not a disaster. Silverstream scored through Tawera Kerr-Barlow and had moments of quality, but 36% possession and only four line breaks made it difficult to stay with Wellington. They need more ball, cleaner platforms and more territory next week.</p>
<h4><strong>Harlequins Cymraeg </strong></h4>
<p>Harlequins showed fight and scored two tries, but they were forced to defend too much and could not control possession. They need to improve exits and reduce pressure periods.</p>
