🏉🔥 WFR XXXI PREMIERSHIP — SEASON PREVIEW THE CHAMPIONS ARE BACK — BUT THE WILD HAVE SENT A WARNING TO EVERYONE The biggest prize in World Fantasy Rugby is back on the line. This Saturday, WFR XXXI Premiership rugby begins, and the defending champions Leeds Tigers start the long road toward trying to retain the crown they won so emphatically last season. But XXXI brings a completely different challenge. Twelve clubs. Twenty-two rounds. Home and away. Saturday and Wednesday rugby. That new Saturday/Wednesday schedule means this Premiership won't simply reward the most spectacular Matchday 23. It will expose every weakness in every 35-man squad. And after examining all twelve supplied XXXI Form Guides, one thing jumps out immediately: Leeds may be the champions — but there are challengers everywhere. And one of them has just won the Earthquake Trophy in devastating fashion. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 🏆 WELCOME TO THE WFR XXXI PREMIERSHIP. ⚡ 22 ROUNDS — AND THE MIDWEEK FACTOR CHANGES EVERYTHING Just as in Conference One, the Premiership's new draw introduces Wednesday fixtures alongside Saturday rugby. That could completely alter how owners approach the season. The temptation will always be to field the strongest available XV. But with another match potentially only days away, owners will have to decide when to rotate, when to protect players and when a particular fixture is important enough to unleash the stars. A superstar-packed first XV won't necessarily be enough. Front-row depth, reserve halves, utility backs and players numbered 24–35 could ultimately decide the championship. And nowhere is that more significant than in a Premiership containing this much elite talent. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 🐯 LEEDS TIGERS — THE CHAMPIONS EVERYBODY HAS TO CATCH There is only one logical place to begin. WFR XXX CHAMPIONS — LEEDS TIGERS. Leeds didn't just win last season. They finished as Minor Premiers, demolished Durban Sports Club 65–21 in their semifinal and then defeated Southern SwashBucklers 42–17 in the Grand Final. And the heartbeat of the champions remains. ⭐ GEORGE FORD The reigning WFR Premiership Player of the Season begins XXXI with form of 103 and extraordinary current ratings of 5.15 across Attack, Defence, Kick and Experience. His early XXXI activity has already produced a try, three conversions, four penalties and a drop goal — 26 points. But Leeds are anything but a one-man operation. Ellis Genge. Dan Sheehan. Maro Itoje. Sam Underhill. Ben Earl. Caelan Doris. Jamison Gibson-Park. Henry Slade. Tommy Freeman. That is a frightening core. Doris enters the season at 107 form, while the pack containing Itoje, Earl and Doris gives Leeds an enormous amount of experience and quality. WFR TV WATCH: Leeds Tigers They carry the target now. Every club knows exactly what beating Leeds means. The question isn't whether Leeds are capable of winning XXXI. It's whether anybody can take the championship away from them. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 🌪️ SILVERSTREAM WILD — THE EARTHQUAKE TROPHY CHAMPIONS ARE COMING If Leeds needed any warning about what awaits them, Silverstream have provided it. Silverstream Wild have just won the Earthquake Trophy. And their Form Guide is extraordinary. Tyrel Lomax enters at 112 form. Leni Apisai is at 114. Isaia Walker-Leawere 108. Devan Flanders 114. Then look at the backline. Tawera Kerr-Barlow — 107. Stephen Perofeta — 111. Sam Gilbert — five tries already. Jordie Barrett — 115. Barrett's early-season numbers are remarkable: 72 points, including 23 conversions and seven penalties, while Sam Gilbert already has five tries. And sitting in the middle of it all is Siya Kolisi. This isn't potential anymore. Silverstream have already lifted silverware. WFR TV WATCH: Silverstream Wild The Earthquake Trophy champions enter the league campaign with arguably the hottest collective form in the Premiership. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 🐬 WELLINGTON DOLPHINS — STAR POWER EVERYWHERE Then we cross Wellington for another squad packed with genuine match-winners. Start with this spine: Ardie Savea Cam Roigard Carter Gordon Damian Penaud Savea enters at 105 form with current attributes approaching 20 overall, while Carter Gordon is rated 5.15 in attack, defence and kicking. Gordon has already accumulated 51 points from a try, 17 conversions and four penalties. And Penaud? A current attribute total of 20.20. Bailyn Sullivan has already crossed three times as well. This is a squad capable of scoring points very quickly. And, of course, every meeting with Silverstream carries another layer: THE BATTLE FOR WELLINGTON. WFR TV WATCH: Wellington Dolphins Enough elite talent to challenge anybody. Their ability to manage that talent through the Saturday/Wednesday schedule could determine how high they finish. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ⚔️ SOUTHERN SWASHBUCKLERS — LAST SEASON'S FINALISTS WANT ANOTHER SHOT Southern came within one match of the championship in WFR XXX. They aren't starting over. They're coming back for another attempt. And their forward resources are formidable. Steven Kitshoff. Eben Etzebeth. Fabian Holland. Shannon Frizell. Samisoni Taukei'aho. Luke Jacobson. Etzebeth enters at 109 form, as does Fabian Holland, while Frizell is sitting at 105. Then there is Brad Weber, one of the standout performers of WFR XXX. Weber already has two tries, three conversions and a penalty recorded heading into the league campaign. Southern understand what a championship campaign requires. They've just experienced one. WFR TV WATCH: Southern SwashBucklers The Grand Final defeat will hurt — but this is an experienced squad with the forward strength to make another deep run. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 🐋 PENINSULA WHALERS — MO'UNGA'S MEN REMAIN DANGEROUS There is something reassuring about seeing Richie Mo'unga sitting at No.10 when a 22-round campaign begins. The Whalers play through one of WFR's premier game managers, and Mo'unga enters XXXI in tremendous shape: Form 110 Current Attributes 18.70 Around him are players including George Bell, Fletcher Newell, Dalton Papali'i, Tom Christie, Louis Bielle-Biarrey and Timoci Tavatavanawai. Fergus Burke has also already been extremely productive, registering three tries, six conversions and two penalties for 33 points. The Whalers made the Top Six last season. They'll expect more this time. WFR TV WATCH: Peninsula Whalers If Mo'unga stays healthy and the Whalers maintain their forward platform, they remain an extremely difficult side to control. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 🦈 DURBAN SPORTS CLUB — BUILT FOR HEAVYWEIGHT RUGBY Durban reached the WFR XXX semifinals. And look at the names preparing for XXXI: Malcolm Marx. Thomas du Toit. Cameron Hanekom. Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu. Cheslin Kolbe. Damian Willemse. Sacha enters with current attributes of 16.32 and has already produced three conversions and seven penalties for 27 points. Up front, Marx remains an elite presence, while Francke Horn starts at 103 form and Hanekom brings power to an already physical loose-forward group. And Damian Willemse gives Durban another genuine elite attacking option. WFR TV WATCH: Durban Sports Club They have the personnel to play brutally direct rugby or open the game through their backs. Durban shouldn't be far from the major conversations. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 🐕 GALWAY GREYHOUNDS — DUPONT AND COMPANY WANT THE NEXT STEP Galway made last season's semifinals after beating New Mexico in the opening playoff round. And their headline talent remains exceptional. ANTOINE DUPONT Alongside him sits Ross Byrne, whose current attributes reach 20.80, with Dupont himself at 20.60. Then add Duhan van der Merwe. That gives Galway some extraordinary attacking weapons. The forward group contains Conor Oliver and Gavin Coombes, while the wider squad must provide enough support to allow Galway's superstars to influence matches consistently. WFR TV WATCH: Galway Greyhounds Dupont can change a game by himself. The bigger question over 22 rounds is whether Galway have enough quality throughout the entire roster to stay with the deepest squads. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 😈 NEW MEXICO DIABLOS — AMERICA'S DANGEROUS OUTSIDERS New Mexico made the Top Six in WFR XXX. Their XXXI squad again contains some fascinating talent. David Ainu'u starts at form 108, Aaron Cummings at 103, Teddy Williams at 102 and Brady Daniel at 105. Then the key axis: Oscar Lennon — AJ MacGinty Lennon enters at form 103 with excellent 5.15 attack and defence ratings, while MacGinty brings the experience and kicking game to steer the Diablos around the park. Christian Dyer has already crossed three times. This is not a team anyone will enjoy travelling to face. WFR TV WATCH: New Mexico Diablos Dangerous, physical and capable of upsetting any contender. Their challenge is producing that level twice a week when the schedule tightens. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 🏴 HARLEQUINS CYMRAEG — THE WELSH PROJECT CONTINUES Harlequins survived their first Premiership campaign and now return with another season's experience. And there are encouraging signs in the Form Guide. Sam Costelow enters at 106 form and has already scored three tries while contributing three conversions and a penalty — 24 points in all. Jared Rosser is at 105, Bryn Bradley 105, while Dylan Alford enters at 106. Finlay Christie also gives Harlequins experience at scrumhalf. They may not possess the same depth of elite names as Leeds or Silverstream, but the Wednesday programme may create exactly the kind of unpredictable matches in which Harlequins can strike. WFR TV WATCH: Harlequins Cymraeg They need consistency, but there are enough improving players here to cause problems. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 🦏 CAPITOL RHINOS — NEVER OVERLOOK BEAUDEN BARRETT Capitol have one very obvious reason why nobody can dismiss them. BEAUDEN BARRETT. And there is experience around him. Franco Mostert, Marcell Coetzee, Akker van der Merwe and others give Capitol a veteran core capable of handling difficult situations. Mostert brings enormous experience to the second row, while Coetzee provides another battle-hardened presence in the loose forwards. If Barrett can consistently put the Rhinos into the right areas of the field, they have enough forward power to make teams uncomfortable. WFR TV WATCH: Capitol Rhinos Their best XV can be dangerous. The 22-round question will be what happens when rotation becomes unavoidable. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 🏴‍☠️ BRISBANE PIRATES — THE CHAMPIONS HAVE ARRIVED Here's one of the great XXXI storylines. Brisbane Pirates are in the Premiership. The WFR XXX Conference One champions have earned promotion and now get to find out exactly how big the jump is. But this is no ordinary promoted squad. Frans Malherbe. Matt Faessler. Fraser McReight. Elrigh Louw. Dylan Pietsch. Andrew Kellaway. McReight supplies elite breakdown defence, while Pietsch brings a current attribute total of 15.84. Brisbane aren't coming upstairs merely hoping to survive. They have enough quality to hurt established Premiership teams. WFR TV WATCH: Brisbane Pirates Conference One champions stepping into the deep end. Their opening weeks will tell us quickly whether they're ready to swim with the Premiership heavyweights. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 🔴 PERTH REDS — FROM CONFERENCE ONE TO THE BIG TIME And Brisbane aren't the only newcomers. Perth Reds, last season's Conference One runners-up, have also made the leap into the Premiership. Their challenge is enormous — but there is significant quality at the top of the roster. Angus Bell. Tate McDermott. Noah Lolesio. Jock Campbell. Izaia Perese. Thomas Ramos. McDermott already has two tries, while Lolesio has contributed a try, two conversions and a penalty. The early Form Guide, however, also shows a warning: several key forwards enter below the 100-form mark, including Bell, Feleti Kaitu'u, Blake Schoupp, Miles Amatosero and Rob Leota. That makes their start particularly important. WFR TV WATCH: Perth Reds Plenty of quality in the first-choice side. Their biggest challenge may be maintaining performance when Wednesday/Saturday rotation starts biting. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 🔥 SO WHO ARE THE TEAMS TO WATCH? There are three particularly compelling reference points before a ball is kicked. Leeds Tigers are the defending Premiership champions. Southern SwashBucklers were last season's beaten finalists. And Silverstream Wild arrive as the newly crowned Earthquake Trophy champions. The current Form Guides then make the picture even more interesting. Silverstream's squad is entering the league in exceptional form. Wellington have extraordinary star power. Durban remain loaded with South African quality. Peninsula have Mo'unga. Galway have Dupont. New Mexico made last season's finals. And neither Brisbane nor Perth have come up merely to make up the numbers. That gives us something far more interesting than a simple two-team race: A CHAMPION WITH A TARGET ON ITS BACK — AND ELEVEN CLUBS TRYING TO TAKE THE CROWN. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 📺 WFR TV — THE QUESTIONS THAT WILL DEFINE XXXI Can Leeds Tigers become back-to-back WFR Premiership champions? Has winning the Earthquake Trophy announced Silverstream Wild as a major Premiership force? Can Southern turn last season's Grand Final heartbreak into another championship run? Will Wellington's Savea–Roigard–Gordon–Penaud firepower translate into a title challenge? Can Richie Mo'unga take the Whalers another step forward? Can Durban's heavyweight roster return to the Grand Final? Will Dupont and Galway break through? Can New Mexico turn another Top Six campaign into something bigger? Can Harlequins or Capitol upset the established order? And what happens when the newcomers arrive? Can Conference One champions Brisbane immediately compete in the Premiership? Can Perth Reds survive — or even thrive — after making the jump? ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 🚨 WFR XXXI PREMIERSHIP 12 CLUBS • 22 ROUNDS • HOME & AWAY SATURDAY + WEDNESDAY RUGBY 35-MAN SQUADS PUT TO THE TEST TOP SIX FINALS ONE WFR CHAMPION The Earthquake Trophy has already delivered the first warning.
